Tutoring Policies
For individual sessions, cancellations with 24 hours notice are subject to 50% refund or credit to future services. Last minute cancellations and no-shows are subject to the full fee. I will always try to reschedule when needed, within my schedule’s availability.
Packages can be cancelled at any time during the semester. Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to do so.
Due to the unfortunate prevalence of scams, I cannot refund personal cheques or bank drafts. I am happy to instead issue credit for any future service you’d like. I will also refuse to accept personal cheques or bank drafts that are made out for more than the invoice amount. If this policy makes things difficult for you, please reach out so we can work together to find a payment method that works for both of us.
If you cancel the remainder of a package at any time throughout the duration of the package you bought, I’ll charge the sessions that have already happened at the regular non-discounted rate (including any late cancellation or no-show fees) and then refund the remainder, if any.
For example: If you have used only four sessions of the full semester package, I will refund the package cost to you, minus the full non-discounted cost of the four sessions we’ve already had.
Payment for services is due in advance. For full-semester packages, payment is due at the beginning of a semester. If you need help applying for government funding to access our services, contact us. {link to contact page}
E-transfer is preferred, but I also accept [methods of payment].
I strive for a healthy work-life balance, and for me that means separating work hours from leisure hours. I will not often answer emails immediately, and they do not forward to my phone. If you need my attention on short notice, please consider texting or calling me instead. Please leave a voicemail if I can’t pick up when you call and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
I will often respond to emails within two to three business days. Please do not rely on me responding to anything outside of business hours; it does sometimes happen when I’m working late or early, but I can’t guarantee that.
I will often talk to you about my own experiences in academia or those of other students when I think it might be helpful, however I will always keep those other students anonymous. I may share some aspects of your own story with others, but only when I can reasonably expect that it would stay completely anonymous. I will never share personal information about you with others without your explicit permission. I keep all my notes on sessions on paper, in a locked file cabinet. There are no electronic records of my notes for our sessions.
I understand that there can be stigma around getting tutoring. If we happen to see each other out in public, I will act as if I don’t know you unless you initiate contact. I will not mention or refer to the services I’m providing you (e.g. tutoring or academic strategy) unless you do so first. It is your choice to share if you are getting tutoring or any other of my services.
Your payment information is handled by a payment processing company, and I do not store any of that either. Depending on how you’ve chosen to pay, it may be different payment processing services or companies. I have chosen the methods of payment that I accept to align with companies that I trust to keep your payment information secure. Using any given payment method is your choice, and by doing so you are trusting the company we work with. If you have any questions or concerns about your payment security, please reach out and we can work together to find something that makes everyone comfortable.
When we start working together, I commit to sticking to it. I won’t give up on you, and I will do what I can to help you through whatever comes up.
However, sometimes we may need to end the professional relationship. For example, not every tutor is right for every student; if we find that we are not a good fit, we can decide together how to best support you in finding other resources. Any good professional won’t take it personally.
If you have bought a package and only used a portion of it, I will charge out the sessions we have had or services rendered up to that point as if they were paid as individual sessions, then refund the remaining portion of the payment.
